Freebird vs. Skull Shaver: See How I’m Getting My Smoothest Shave Yet
Losing your hair years before you ever thought you would is a struggle I know well– my hair started thinning in my early 20’s! And if that wasn’t enough, figuring out how to shave my head to keep it looking presentable has proven to be a learning curve I didn’t expect either.
My first experience shaving my head began with a multi blade razor, but no matter how many mirrors I used and shaving creams I tried, I always cut up the back of my head and left patches unshaved. From there, I turned to electric shavers, but finding one that checks all my boxes and leaves my skin silky smooth hasn’t been easy.
In my quest to nail down the perfect head shaving routine, I’m putting two electric shavers to the test: Freebird (or Freedom Grooming, as they used to be known) and Skull Shaver.
Best Shave in Under 2 Minutes… Freebird
Both the Freebird and the Skull Shaver claim to give you a speedy, thorough head shave, but the Freebird really delivers the results without any stubble, cuts, or irritation. Shaving my whole head is usually a drawn-out affair, but in the time it takes for me to do other quick tasks like brush my teeth or wait for the shower to heat up, I can have a silky-smooth head. It’s really incredible!
Safest for Even Your Most Sensitive Skin… Freebird
Freebird’s ScalpSafe™ Technology is designed with all skin types in mind. When you don’t have a lot of hair, the skin on your head is regularly exposed to wind, sunlight, and other harsh conditions, so even the most gentle shave can do more damage than you’d expect. With the Freebird, my skin feels like the shaver has never even touched my head at all. No bumps, no rash, and no stubble in sight.
Most Blade Variety… Skull Shaver
Skull Shaver’s blade variety is definitely a benefit: it has 3, 4, or 5 blade count choices. Freebird only has the signature 5-blade head, and although it works amazingly well for me, I can imagine some guys out there have their own blade count preferences in mind.
Best Shave in or Out of the Shower… Freebird
The Freebird is super versatile and truly waterproof, and I get just as good of a shave whether my skin is wet or dry. I prefer to shave fully in the shower and do quick maintenance shaves dry, so it’s really important for me to have a shaver that can perform the same function no matter what the conditions are.
Quickest Cleanup… Freebird
One of my biggest pet peeves is the after shave clean-up—there’s nothing worse than clearing tiny hairs out of your shaver or off your countertops. The Freebird is super easy to clean, and the blades and attachments never get clogged up with stubble (yuck!).
Most Affordable… Freebird
Much like with the blades, Skull Shaver has multiple razors to choose from. Which, honestly, I found a little confusing. Their base-level razor starts at $49.99 but you can also choose their Silver ($109.99), Gold ($139.99), or Platinum ($249.99) options. It was not exactly clear to me what the differences were to justify the varying prices. The Silver and Gold options honestly felt like the same exact shaver just with different cosmetic treatments.
Freebird only has one shaver – the FlexSeries – which I appreciated from a simplicity standpoint. Currently priced at $39.95 with their limited time offer ($60 off!) Freebird is by far the more affordable option.
Best Overall Shaver… Freebird
What can I say? The Freebird shaver really blew me away. My head is smooth, bump-free, and I don’t dread maintaining my hair anymore. Looking to take your shave to the next level? Order your kit from Freebird today!
